Global medical device company Dentium
announced that its ‘bright WBCT (Weight Bearing Computed Tomography)’ system
has been designated as a New Medical Technology by the South Korean Ministry of
Health and Welfare. The technology has been officially recognized for its
safety and efficacy in the diagnosis, treatment evaluation, and progress
monitoring of musculoskeletal disorders.
On September 13, the Ministry of Health and
Welfare officially recognized ‘Weight-Bearing Cone-Beam Computed Tomography
Imaging Diagnosis’ through its public notification on the Assessment of New
Medical Technologies. This advanced imaging method allows for scans to be taken
while the patient’s body is under a natural load, enabling a more precise
diagnosis of musculoskeletal conditions and a more effective evaluation of
treatment progress.
The bright WBCT system is capable of
performing scans on localized areas such as the foot, ankle, and knee under
weight-bearing conditions. A full-body weight-bearing system, planned for
future development, is expected to include both CT and sequential anterior/posterior
scanning capabilities.
"We are delighted to receive official
recognition for the safety and efficacy of the bright WBCT as a new medical
technology," said a Dentium spokesperson. "We will do our utmost to
ensure that patients with musculoskeletal conditions can receive superior
medical services through safe and accurate diagnoses performed under
weight-bearing conditions."
Leveraging its advanced CBCT technology and
in-house manufacturing capabilities, Dentium plans to expand its product
portfolio from the dental field into various other medical industry sectors,
strengthening its competitiveness in both domestic and international markets.
The procedure is currently undergoing the
review process for inclusion in the national health insurance reimbursement
plan. During this period, medical institutions can offer the service to
patients as a non-reimbursed procedure. Once it is officially listed for
reimbursement, it will be applied according to the Ministry's guidelines.
